An Ice Cream a Day for the Month of July
July 6th, 2012

I’m crocheting a different ice cream a day for the month of July!  It’s the perfect month for ice cream and there’s a flavour for everyone.  Take a look at my tumblr (http://curiousoriginalplush.tumblr.com/) to keep up on the daily flavour updates.

Here’s a teaser…

My crochet toys at My Plastic Heart
June 30th, 2012

Last week, I was down in wonderful New York City and got in touch with the folks at My Plastic Heart.  It’s a little shop specialising in vinyl figures.

They graciously agreed to take a bunch of my Message Octopus in their store!  What is a Message Octopus you ask?  Well, its a cute palm-sized crochet octopus that holds little flags where you can write your own message!  These are the very first for sale.  Yes, I said the very first!  I will be making some more soon.

I also made two large molars for them.  One is a Stanley, a gentleman molar.  The other is Tyrell, he’s bad to the core.  They are both the first of that size.  They come with a little story and are one of a kind!!!!

Grumpy Bert Show today!
June 30th, 2012

Today is the opening night of the Grumpy Bert show at the DeKalb market in Brooklyn!  So excited and I wish I could be there.

I actually took a visit there last week while in the US for some business and it is such a charming market.  The Grumpy Bert store is great and I love that the focus is on plush!

Crochet Marshmallow Instructable
March 30th, 2012

So, the enthusiasm from the last post has not worn off on me.  I am busy making things, but waiting to show it when it’s a little more complete.  Partially since I have to brace myself for feedback, but also because I want to make it more awesome!

In the meantime, I created this crochet marshmallow instructable!  Check it out here.

After a long break…
February 27th, 2012

Yes, I have not written anything since June of last year.  June!!!  what kind of website is this!?  well, a lot has happened.

I went to a few places.  LA, Chicago, Las Vegas (that’s a repeat), Vancouver, and most recently New York.

Took on a new line of work for a while and met the best co-workers ever.  So much so, that I realise that magic can never be replicated again.

Went back to work at the toy company, which I’m still getting used to.

And the biggest thing that made me start writing again is that I had a revelation, an epiphany if you will (with the help of a bunch of people giving me advice and me finally listening), about what I should be doing with my life to make me the happiest I can be.  I know it sounds cheesy and idealistic, but for real.  I’m on a mission now, with purpose.

Over the next while as this project takes shape, I will be posting developments of the project in process.  I’m planning to make it awesome!

Still the year of February…
June 3rd, 2011

In my attempt to make February last all year, here is a quote by Bern Williams…If a June night could talk, it would probably boast it invented romance.

Ah, romance…everyone get out there and enjoy the weather with someone you like!

I’ll be going on vacation in Mid-June and hopefully I’ll have more to talk about after…I know I’ve been slacking.

More old stuff…
May 20th, 2011

Here is some older stuff…thought I’d finally post it.  These are all one off pieces…and I probably won’t make another one of these unless there’s a really special reason.

Here they are… zombie hand, Atari Joystick, Wii remote, and glow in the dark terrarium.   The electronics and zombie hand were from a few years back.  The terrarium was more recent.  The little guy and the white specks on the ground glow in the dark!

Enjoy!

Spring Animals and a Gold Tooth
May 20th, 2011

I just realised I hadn’t posted pictures of these spring animals that are now awaiting adoption at Kid Icarus!

It is finally spring here in Toronto and these cute little bunnies and chicks bring Spring cheer.  I have to admit, it was difficult parting with them.

Also I had made a gold tooth.  I may switch out the yarn as this was kind of stretchy, meaning you can see his insides (i.e. stuffing).

Enjoy!  There’s more on my flickr account.

Beets
May 11th, 2011

I kept an open mind for years with regards to beets.  At first, I thought it was such a strange food.  Like, how is it a vegetable and sweet, but not really sweet.  My palate just wasn’t ready for it.

Then over the years, I gave it a few more tries although only in canned form.  I thought I had made peace with beets, but then last week, I made this soup and somehow decided that putting beets in was a good idea.

I was very very wrong.

They get one more chance, and only as fresh vegetables until I’m ready to write them off for good.
